Voting by Mail

Voting by Mail is an opportunity to vote from your home, dorm, vacation, business trip, etc. It can also give you extra time to vote depending on when you apply, because the ballots start hitting mailboxes 6 weeks or so before the election. So if there is a possibility of getting called to work, or not being able to get to the polls for any reason at all, this is a great option.

How to apply:

  • You can select Vote by Mail when you register to vote for the first time or change your address.

  • If you are already registered to vote, you can fill out the application online or print the paper application.

    • Be sure to complete section 1-9. Sections 10 & 11 are only needed if you require assistance completing and submitting the form.

For paper applications be sure to download the application for the County where you live, as there is a preprinted address on the form for your County Clerk.

Voters may apply for a Vote by Mail ballot in person the day before an election, by 3 p.m. at the Clerk's office. You can also submit your completed ballot to the Board of Elections at that time.

Once you’ve voted your ballot, either mail it, drop it in a secure drop box anywhere in the county where you live, or drop it off to your Board of Elections office. We love the drop box option.

Choosing to Vote by Mail - It’s important to remember that your ballot will be sent to the address you provide. You cannot take it to your polling place. If you change your mind and want to vote at the polls, contact your County Clerk in writing prior to the election, or you can vote at the polls by way of a Provisional Ballot. If you are told you cannot vote and are not offered a provisional ballot, just ask.

NJ Voting Early In-Person

The State of New Jersey lets you vote in person prior to Election Day, including Saturday and Sunday. And you can use any Early Voting Location in your County of residence. The state will post locations closer to Election Day.
