If voting by mail seems less appealing, change your status now.

If you are concerned about voting by mail, you have good reason. The headlines are everywhere. But if you typically get a ballot by mail and know for sure you’d rather duck into the booth and push the buttons, you have to notify the County Clerk in writing before the list is finalized and your name is submitted as a Vote by Mail ballot recipient. That is coming soon.

This isn’t to say you can’t vote at the polls. You can! You just can’t go into the voting booth like you might have expected, and some folks find that disconcerting. Also, having to vote by Provisional Ballot when you didn’t expect it might kill the mood, that annual ritual of going into the booth, pushing the buttons or pulling the levers, and tossing back the curtain, satisfied that you’ve cast your vote.

But if you find yourself in that situation, get the Provisional Ballot and vote! The only reason vote by mail voters can’t go into the booth is to prevent anyone from voting twice.
